Trail MapSection 1 - is from County Road A to Lily Bridge on Highway 52. This is a beautiful stretch, starting with a low class II rapid, followed by flatwater and class I rapids. There are a few private cottages, but most of the adjacent property is owned by the state DNR. Roadside access is easy and convenient, with gravel parking areas at the County Highway A put-in and the Highway 52 take-out.
Trail MapSection 2 - is from Hollister to the Highway 64 bridge at Langlade. This section is often paddled by beginners as the river offers a variety of Class I and II rapids with good surfing waves and countless currents.
Trail MapSection 3 - is considered south of the Highway 64 bridge. The river has stretches of several Class II+ (III) rapids and some long flatwater stretches. With most of the riverbank under state ownership (until the end of the run), you get the feeling of paddling in a wilderness setting.
Trail MapSection 4 - is the most challenging segment on the Wolf River. The character of the river changes from (generally) longer boulder-garden style rapids (upstream of the reservation and the upper/prior stretch in the reservation) to shorter but steeper drops in this section. In all cases, fairly long flatwater pools separate the main rapids.
