Skijoring

Two of Langlade County's cross-country skiing trail systems and two sled dog trail systems also function as skijoring trails! They feature a variety of elevations and environments that allow for various skill levels to enjoy skijoring through the beautiful Northwoods. Due to the rolling hills, it is advised that intermediate to advanced skijorers only use these sled dog trail systems. Beginner to intermediate skijorers are able to use the two cross-country ski trail systems with their four-legged skiing buddy.

Enjoy skijoring on 9 miles of varying hills at Kettlebowl Recreation Area Track 52 Trailhead. There will be plenty of heart-pumping excitement for you and your dog on the wooded trails in the northern Crocker Hills. Due to the rolling hills, the Kettlebowl Recreation Area Track 52 trail is an intermediate to advanced skijoring trail.

Please be aware that you may encounter sled dog teams training. When a person or team is going to pass or overtake another team, they will call out "TRAIL!" When heard, please move to one side of the trail to allow for a safe pass.

The winter trails are groomed in cooperation with the Langlade County Forestry, Parks, and Recreation Department. Trails are marked when open to skijoring and sled dog teams. The parking lot is plowed in winter. Food & restroom facilities are available on winter weekends when Kettlebowl Ski Hill at the Kettlebowl Recreation Area (approximately 1/4 mile from the trailhead) is open from noon to 4 pm.

Kettlebowl Recreation Area Track 52 Trailhead is located approximately 14 miles northeast of Antigo on Langlade-Price Road between Bryant & Lily. The trailhead is exactly ¾ of a mile north of Hwy 52 and Langlade Price Road intersection (¾ mile west of Kettlebowl Ski Hill).

Crocker Hills Recreation Area - Sled Dog Trail

Crocker Hills Recreation Area has developed 6-miles of skijoring and sled dog trail opportunities in the Evergreen Forest Management Unit. This vast, county-owned property weaves you through beautiful rolling scenery of northern hardwood forest types. Please be aware that you may encounter sled dog teams training. When a person or team is going to pass or overtake another team, they will call out "TRAIL!" When heard, please move to one side of the trail to allow for a safe pass.

The Crocker Hills Recreation Area is located about 18 miles east of Antigo, WI on Hwy 64. The trailhead is located on Fraley Road and a public parking area is developed along with a vaulted restroom.

The Crocker Hill Recreation Area's Sled Dog Trail is maintained by volunteers of the Langlade County Sled Dog Club during the winter and the Triple R Riding Club during the summer. Click here for more information on Crocker Hill Recreation Area.

Moccasin Lake Recreation Area - Cross-Country Ski Trail

Moccasin Lake Cross-Country Ski Trail is 5.5 miles long. The trail is designed for all abilities, and groomed for both classic and freestyle. Skijoring is allowed on the Moccasin Lake Cross-Country Ski Trail, but please respect the classical ski tracks.

Jack Lake Cross-Country Ski Trail - Jack Lake Recreation Area - North Trailhead

Jack Lake Recreation Area - North Trailhead does allow skijoring on the cross-country ski trail. The north trailhead is located a half-mile from Jack Lake Recreation Area - South Trailhead in Veterans Memorial Park. The north trailhead has 12 miles of both classic and freestyle cross-country skiing designed for all abilities. Skiers must have an annual permit issued by the Langlade County Forestry, Parks, and Recreation Department or a daily use permit available at the onsite fee station. The Piston-Bully grooms the trails on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays (as needed on Fridays) every week during the winter. The trail will not be groomed during Christmas Break. This is the schedule no matter the snowfall. A parking area, restrooms, and a recreational shelter are available. When skijoring, please stay off of the classical ski tracks.
