Ackley Wildlife Area spans 400 acres of diverse landscapes along State Highway 64, including grasslands, aspen, and hardwood stands. It offers year-round outdoor experiences for hikers, hunters, and wildlife enthusiasts. The area provides hunting opportunities for various game species and is home to abundant wildlife, including beavers, muskrats, fishers, and coyotes, in addition to the surrounding county forest lands.

The Antigo High School outdoor facilities are open to the public during non-school hours. The facilities include:

• Elleson Tennis Courts - offers eight courts, enclosed in a chain link fence. The first two courts are lighted. There is a spring-loaded timer mounted on the first pole to turn the lights on. These courts are home to the Antigo Red Robin Tennis team.
• Fitness Mile - has multiple workout stations connected by a gravel path which is a mile long.
• Listle Field - is a quarter track utilized by the Antigo High School Track Team.  Inside the track is the Antigo High School Soccer Field.
• Soccer Fields - The Antigo Varsity Soccer Team utilized the soccer field inside Listle Field.  A second soccer field is located to the east of Listle Field.
• AHS 9-hole Disc Golf Course - is mostly flat & lightly wooded. Tees are marked by stakes. The fairways are relatively easy, although some are fairly long.
• Antigo High School Baseball Field - is located on the south side of the property.  The baseball field is used by the freshman baseball team and baseball tournaments. 
• Sand volleyball courts - are located right off of Tenth Avenue.

                  

Camp Susan Recreation Area provides a unique and nature-based experience for overnight or day-use gatherings. This camp is located along the pristine Susan Lake and is surrounded by 240 acres of county-owned forestlands that provide ample opportunities for recreation! Camp Susan Recreation Area is open to the public with motorized access up to the new gate.

Day or overnight use of the historic lodge and facilities are available for rent for gatherings and meetings by reservation only. The facility is handicap accessible. Charles De Langlade Recreation Area is the newest Langlade County recreation area purchased in 2017 from the Boy Scouts of America.  The property is located near Post Lake, WI about 30 miles northeast of Antigo, WI. This area is about 600-acres of county-owned land and contains two small, undeveloped lakes named Perch and Aninnan. While visiting this hidden gem you can expect to see stunning scenery of towering pines, large oaks, low bog areas, natural shorelines, and an abundance of wildlife such as Trumpeter Swans!  

Aside from wildlife, there is an abundance of recreational opportunities at Charles De Langlade Recreation Area as well!  These activities include:

Boulder Lake Campground is located on the shores of Boulder Lake in the eastern part of Langlade County and is the Chequamegon Nicolet National Forest's largest campground. The campground has individual and group sites, making it an ideal location to relax with friends or family. 

Recreational opportunities abound for hiking, water activities, and mountain biking. A trail accessible from the campground offers diverse landscapes of bogs and ridges. Boulder Lake provides ample opportunities for power boating, water activities like water skiing and paddling, swimming, and fishing. Anglers might catch walleye, northern pike, bass, or panfish. Ice fishing is also popular on the lake, and the boat ramp and parking area are plowed during the winter to provide better access to the lake. The Nicolet Roche Mountain Bike Trail is accessible from the boat ramp parking lot.

Maranatha Cross-Country Ski Trail has nine clearly marked trail loops that encompass 6.7 miles of beautiful wooded scenery in the Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest. The trail ranges from beginner to expert levels and is groomed for traditional skiing only. The trail is maintained by Silver Birch Ranch which is open to the public.

The trailhead begins ½ mile East of Silver Birch Ranch.  The parking area is at the trailhead on the right (south) side of Sawyer Lake Road.
 

    

The challenging Nicolet Roche Mountain Bike Trail is a tight and technical 20-mile single-track trail that incorporates natural features like long sections of intermediate trails littered with technical rock gardens, fun punchy climbs, and advanced features that make excellent use of the terrain. It is sure to keep the excitement level up. The trailheads are located on the south end at Boulder Lake Boat Landing (1.8 miles northeast of Hwy 55 via Cty WW and Forest Road 2116), on the north end of Hwy 64 (3.3 miles east of Langlade), and the end of Van Alstine Road.
 

    

Antigo's City Park is divided into East and West by Aurora Street. City Park West is home to the 2009 renovated bandstand. The bandstand is utilized for weddings, movies in the park, those reserving the shelter for various events, and Music in the Park. Music in the Park offers free concerts to the public every Monday and Thursday from June through the end of August.  In the fall of 2023, the James & Mary Draeger Family Splash Pad opened in City Park East, replacing an old wading pool.  The beloved dolphin from the wading pool has been integrated into the new splash pad.

Picnic tables, grills, and benches are located throughout the park.  The shelter facility and restrooms are separate facilities that have electricity. City Park East and West are also the starting points for the annual Tator Trot run/walk event and the annual Easter Egg Hunt.

The Antigo Dog Park is approximately 17 acres of fully fenced-in space, with a separate 2-acre small dog area, that is open year-round. The park has various trails and open spaces which are mowed throughout the summer season. For owners, there are benches throughout the park to take a break and relax.  During the winter, a section of the dog park is plowed and the parking lot is maintained.

The dog park is open from dawn to dusk as there are no lights within the park or parking area.  For a list of park rules, click here.
 

        

​The Elcho US Highway 45 Bicycle & Pedestrian Trail, is being developed to provide a safe, non-motorized trail for biking, hiking, and pet walking during the spring, summer, and fall seasons. The trail aims to connect County Highway B south of Elcho to County Highway G north of Elcho, following a route on the east side of Highway 45. The trailhead is located behind the Elcho Fire & Rescue building on Cole Street. The trailhead does not have parking, so it is recommended to park on Dorr Street by North Trail Store (11220 Dorr St, Elcho, WI) and walk one block south and one block east on Cole Street. The trailhead is located at the intersection of Cole Street and Elmo Street by W10564 Cole Street.

A paved asphalt section was completed in October 2026 running from Otter Lake Wayside to "just short of south juntion of trail by Hwy 45". 

The trail is planned in 3 sections. The first section will run from Enterprise Lake Road to Parkway Lane north of Otter Lake. Development of the second section, south of Elcho on the old railroad grade, will commence once funding is secured for the first section. The trail will have different surface types along its route. South of Elcho, it will run on an old railroad grade which is utilized as a snowmobile trail in the winter, with a surface of crushed gravel or limestone. Through Elcho, the trail will follow local streets, and north of Elcho, a 10-foot-wide asphalt multi-use trail is planned.

Langlade County boasts over 66 miles of the thousand-mile Ice Age National Scenic Trail. It is divided into seven segments: 0.8 mile Ice Override, 7.2 miles Antigo Heights, 9.9 miles Kettlebowl, 12 miles Lumbercamp, 12.2 miles Summit Moraine, 12.8 miles Highland Lakes, and 12 miles Parrish Hills. The Kettlebowl and Highland Lakes Segments each have over 4 miles of connecting links over town roads. The North Trailhead is home to the Jack Lake Cross Country Ski Trails.  It is located along County Road J just before entering Veterans Memorial Park. The trails in this area go through northern hardwood and aspen forest types, spruce forests, and low bog areas while participating in these activities:

Winter:

• Cross Country Skiing - Jack Lake Cross Country Ski Trails consist of over 12 miles of Piston-Bully groomed and tracked trails that offer both traditional and skate-style skiing. The trail system provides both beginner levels with gentle slopes to moderate levels with steep hills. Skiers must have an annual permit issued by the Langlade County Forestry, Parks, and Recreation Department or a daily use permit available at the onsite fee station. The ski trail does allow skijoring and winter fat biking.  Additional winter fat biking and snowshoeing opportunities are available .6 miles down the road at Jack Lake Recreation Area - South Trailhead.  Please do not snowshoe on the groomed cross-country ski trail. 
• Snowshoeing - one-mile snowshoe loop is accessible from the parking lot.  The maintenance efforts of the snowshoe trail are done completely by volunteers from the Jack Lake Silent Sport Association.

• Sledding Hill - Jackalope Slope Sledding Hill will open in the winter of 2023-2024.  The sledding hill is located next to the Spychalla Lodge.

• Kettlebowl Ski Hill relies on naturally made snow for downhill skiing and snowboarding. The hill has five rope tows, all eight runs are intermediate with a bunny/beginner hill. Snowboards are very popular and welcome.  Kettlebowl has terrain park features in place on the hill with 8x8 ft wall and 8x16 ft butter box.  There are no sledding or tubing facilities. Tickets for the day are $10 and $5 for kids under 18. This is a CASH-ONLY establishment with no ATM on site. Rental equipment is available for rent when the hill is open.  When open, the normal hours are noon to 4 pm Saturdays & Sundays. Fun for the whole family!

• Cross Country Skiing - Kettlebowl Cross Country Ski Trail offers two loops of classical and skate skiing trail for a total length of 2.79 miles. Kettlebowl XC Ski Trail groomers will try to groom every Saturday morning when the trail is open. The trailhead is in the northeast corner of the Kettlebowl Ski Hill/Kettlebowl Recreation Area parking lot when open on Saturday & Sunday from noon to 4 pm. If the gate is closed, park by the entrance gate.  There is a trailhead 100 yards down the entrance road from the gate. Please be aware that certain sections are multi-use trails with snowmobilers. 
• Snowshoeing - Kettlebowl Cross Country Ski Trail allows people to snowshoe alongside the skate deck and classical ski tracks.  Please be respectful to the groomed portion of the trail.
• Ski Chalet has food available for purchase and to relax with a spectacular view of the hill while warming up.  When the ski hill is open, Antigo Ski is located inside the chalet to rent equipment (skis, boots, and snowboards).

This Langlade County Bow & Gun Range is designed to provide a safe environment for both archery and firearm enthusiasts. The range offers facilities for archery, air gun, and firearm use. There are benches available to sight in your firearm at 25 yards, 50 yards, 100 yards, 200 yards, and 300 yards. There is also a trap area for hand-thrown clay targets. The archery range is located in the wooded area south of the 100, 200, and 300-yard firearm target area. Archers and shooters will need to bring their own paper targets and attach them to the target holders.  

Unless part of a licensed event, all shooters must possess an annual permit issued by the Department or a daily use permit by processing payment at the payment box. 

The Langlade County Bow & Gun Range is located 4 miles south of Antigo on Sunnyside/Range Road.  The facility is maintained by the Langlade County Forestry and Recreation Department.

​The Noboken School Forest is a 168-acre Unified School District of Antigo property that is open to the public when students are not present.  The forest encompasses several different habitat types including a tamarack swamp, a small beaver pond, and a 27-acre lake, Noboken Lake. There are hiking trails that can be utilized for snowshoeing in the winter, as well as a dock on Noboken Lake for fishing.  The lake is accessible for ice fishing in the winter.

The Environmental Education Center assists the Unified School District of Antigo to increase students' understanding of natural resources and environmental issues.  The center is available for rent to the community.  

Noboken School Forest is located 12 miles north of Antigo off State Hwy. 45 on County Highway J to the east (the road that goes to Jake Lake/Veterans Memorial Park). Travel 1⁄2 mile on Hwy J and turn right at the gated logging road (about 1⁄4 mile after the power lines). There is a sign at the gate that says, “Antigo School Forest Education Shelter”.

Peaceful Valley Park and Festival Grounds is home to Rockin' Robin's Park, Peaceful Valley Heinzen Pavilion, and Peaceful Valley Festival Grounds.  The pavilion and festival grounds within Peaceful Valley Park provide a venue for hosting various community events, family gatherings, and year-round activities.

• Rockin' Robin's Park & Playground - is a large community-built playground.  It is known to locals as Castle Park because of the castle towers, railroad cars, and ships. The playground has a separate toddler area with a sandbox. 
• Peaceful Valley Heinzen Pavilion - has glass garage doors that can be opened and closed when needed. The pavilion is for rent during the summer.  From 8 am to noon on Saturdays during the summer, the pavilion hosts the Antigo Farmers Market.
• Peaceful Valley Festival Grounds - has a raised brick patio stage with accessible electricity.
• Hiking - the Springbrook Trail runs through the park and festival grounds.
• Toilets - Accessible men’s and women’s restrooms are open during the summer months on the north side of the building warming house.

• Warming House is available for private reservations.

• Ice Skating
  • Peaceful Valley Hockey Rink offers hockey boards and nets.  Light illuminates the rink until 8:30 pm daily.
  • Peaceful Valley Heinzen Pavilion Rink is for figure skating and non-hockey skaters. The City of Antigo Park and Rec crews will open and close the pavilion's garage doors based on the snow forecast and conditions.  If the garage doors are closed, the walk-through access doors on the east and west ends of the building are open. Benches are available to put on skates.
    • An ice trail connecting the rinks and the warming house is developed when the conditions allow. 
• Peaceful Valley Warming House is open from 7:00 am to 8:30 pm daily.  The warming house has benches to put on skates and a restroom.  

                 

Peters Marsh Wildlife Area is made up of a variety of habitat types including forests, fields, wetlands, and native grasslands covering 1,687 acres in central Langlade County. The variety of cover provides access to numerous wildlife species including waterfowl, ruffed grouse, deer, turkey, black bear, woodcock, snowshoe hare, and beaver.

Hunters, hikers, birdwatchers, and horseback riders alike will enjoy all that this property has to offer. Located on County Highway A about 9 miles northeast of Antigo, there are six parking areas that provide access to more than 10 miles of grass walking trails. Motorized vehicle travel is prohibited.

This Langlade County-owned fishing area is located where the Wolf River flows out of Lower Post Lake and continues south. The area features ample shoreline fishing opportunities for bluegill, pumpkinseed, perch, crappie, bullhead, rock bass, bullhead, largemouth bass, smallmouth bass, suckers, northern pike, muskellunge, redhorse, and walleye. There is also a paved boated landing amd a disability-accessible fishing platform. The area also features a demonstration area for native and beneficial shoreline plant species.  The parking lot for Post Lake Dam Recreation Area is located off Pineywood Drive.

Important Notice for Post Lake Dam Fishing: From April 1 through May 31 there is a fish refuge from the Post Lake dam downstream 75 feet. No fishing is allowed in the refuge during this time period. The fishing platform is not in this refuge area. Also, gamefish (walleye, northern pike, trout) season opens on the first Saturday of May. Muskellunge season opens the Saturday before Memorial Day. Bass harvest season opens on the third Saturday in June. The Wolf River upstream from the Shawano paper mill dam is not open to year-round fishing for gamefish. Panfish (bluegill, crappie, perch, rock bass, bullhead, etc.) may be fished year-round in the Wolf River below the fish refuge.
 

        

The Railway Activity Park encompasses the Optimist Skate Park, Rotary Bike Park & Pump Track, RC Track, and Optimist Sledding Hill.

Optimist Skate Park is a fenced-in skate park with moveable structures on a concrete slab. The park includes a variety of ramps, rails, and boxes for skateboarders and rollerbladers to practice and showcase their skills. Bikes are allowed but need to have plastic pegs. The skate park is accessible off Dorr Street. 

The pump track has a circuit of rollers, banked turns, and features designed to be ridden completely by the rider generating momentum from up and down body movements, instead of pedaling or pushing the bike.  The bike park offers a series of obstacles and challenges for mountain bikers of all ages.  The skate park is accessible off Second Avenue or a paved parking lot is available on First Avenue by the sledding hill.

In the spring of 2024, an RC Track was built off of the 3rd Avenue entrance.

During the winter, head to the Optimist Sledding Hill for some winter fun.  When the hill is open, light illuminates the hill from dusk to 8:30 pm.  A parking lot is accessible from First Avenue.
 

              

Bring the kids out for a great fishing experience from the shoreline and fishing pier. Remington Lake is open for fishing to kids under the age of 16 and disabled anglers only. The pond is stocked yearly with brook trout and rainbow trout by Trout Unlimited, Northwoods Sportsman's Club, and the Antigo DNR. Please remember that a trout stamp is required for disabled anglers aged 16 and older to fish for trout. There are four benches available to enjoy the scenery and fishing experience. Remington Lake is accessible off First Avenue and North Hogan Street in Antigo.

Shadick Spring Pond, also referred to as Shadick Spring, is a 3-acre water body situated in Langlade County, WI. It has a maximum depth of 7 feet and is known for its fishing opportunities.  Anglers can catch brook trout, rainbow trout, perch, and bullhead in the pond from a handicap-accessible pier. Remember, a trout stamp is required to fish for trout for anglers aged 16 and older.  The primitive carry-in public boat landing allows for paddling activities. The put-in location is to the right of the viewing/fishing pier.

The City of Antigo Springbrook Trail is a three-plus-mile trail constructed out of a combination of asphalt, boardwalk, and wood-chip paths along Antigo Lake and Spring Brook before meandering through forests.  The 10-foot-wide trail has 420' of low-level boardwalk and 1,800 feet of raised boardwalk along Spring Brook waterway.  There are four overlooks, two bridges, and three fishing piers. Sections of the trail from 4th Avenue Dam to Second Avenue are lit with low-level light pedestals for evening walks or early morning runs.  The Springbrook Trail is cleared during the winter, so take advantage of the paved trail to walk, run, and enjoy our community all year long. 

The trail is accessible from Fourth Avenue in Antigo, east of Hwy 45. You can also access the trail by parking in the cul-de-sac at the end of Virginia Street, behind North Elementary School, Hudson Street Shelter, Lake Park Shelter, Al Remington Little League Park, or Peaceful Valley Park & Festival Grounds.

Summer:

• Walking - Take a walk at any time of the day. Sections of the trail from 4th Avenue Dam to Second Avenue are lit with low-level light pedestals for evening walks or early morning runs.  Educational signage is available to enrich the visitor experience.
• Biking - The Springbrook Trail can be biked.  Please warn pedestrians when coming up from behind.
• Paddling - Antigo Lake has a boat ramp and ADA kayak launch accessible from Lakeside Park (510 4th Avenue - the south side of Antigo Lake by Lakeside Pharmacy and Grocery).
• Disc Golf - the 18-hole disc golf course's first hole is located at the north end of the boardwalk.
• Fishing - three fishing piers are along Antigo Lake.
• Camping - is available at Antigo Lake RV Campground.  The campground is located half a block from Antigo Lake and the Springbrook Trail.
• Ball Fields - the trail passes four ball fields - Kretz Park, Lake Park, Senior League Park, and Al Remington Little League Ball Field.
• Playgrounds - playground equipment is located at Hudson Street Park, Lake Park, and an island off of the boardwalk. 
• Picnicking - There are shelters with picnic tables and grills along the trail to enjoy a meal with family and friends.
• Restrooms: Three restrooms along the trail are available from spring to fall at Lake Park, Hudson Street, and Al Remington Ball Field.
• Wildlife Viewing - bluebird and wood duck houses are placed in Antigo Lake and Spring Brook.  Occasionally, turtles and deer are seen along the trail.

• Cross-Country Skiing - The City of Antigo Park and Recreation Department maintains 2.12 miles of cross-country ski trail loops north of the boardwalk. The trail is groomed for classical and skate skiing. Access is available from the 300 block of Byrne Street, off of Langlade Road, the dead-end of Virginia Street, or behind North Elementary School.
• Snowshoeing - is allowed alongside the cross-country ski trail. Please respect the ski tracks and skating deck. Snowshoers are to walk on the far side of the skate deck.
• Ice Fishing - fish Antigo Lake during the winter months.  Check ice conditions before heading out on the ice.  The ice may be thinner near the 4th Avenue Dam.
• Fat Biking - is allowed alongside the cross-country ski trail. Please respect the ski tracks and skating deck. Fat bikers are to ride on the far side of the skate deck.  The groomed sections of the Springbrook Trail can also be ridden during the winter months.

                                  

Summit Lake County Park is conveniently located right off Highway 45 in the Town of Summit, about 18 miles north of Antigo and 5 miles south of Elcho, WI.  The county park is a popular summertime destination to take in the sunshine, take a swim, play on the beach, or have a picnic with friends and family!  Amenities include:

White Lake Park is nestled on the shores of White Lake, providing a quaint beach area for visitors.  The park features a sand beach swimming area with a swim raft. A fishing pier provides opportunities for kids and disabled fishing enthusiasts.  The boat ramp and kayak launch allow for fishing, boating, and water activities on White Lake. Joe Edelman Pavilion provides ample area for picnics and events under the covered pavilion along White Lake.  A new playground and walking path are located by the pavilion.  No pets are allowed in White Lake Park or the beach area.

The park is situated at 1190 Lake St, White Lake, WI 54491, adjacent to the Village of White Lake, WI.

The eastern part of Langlade County is home to the famous Wolf River, which has abundant recreation opportunities. The river is recognized for its unique wide, boulder-strewn, natural, undeveloped stream with a rapid gradient in many locations, because of this Langlade County's stretch of water is considered one of the best whitewater rivers in the Midwest! The Wolf goes from quiet, calm water in the northern section to complex rapids in the southern sections. Spring run-off is one of the most challenging obstacles. Area outfitters provide tube, canoe, and raft rentals. Access is available at road crossings with possible take-out near Markton and County Road M before entering the Menominee Indian Reservation. NOTE: Regulations on paddling beyond Markton should be checked locally as the next 24-mile stretch from the Langlade-Menominee County line downstream to Keshena Falls is one of two National Wild and Scenic Rivers. The Wolf River in this section is not developed for public use.

The Wolf River in Langlade County is classified as an Outstanding Resource Water.  As part of the Upper Wolf River Fishery Area, the Wolf River provides opportunities for shore fishing, wading, canoe/kayak fishing, and fly fishing. Fish species inhabiting the Wolf River include brook, brown and rainbow trout, large and smallmouth bass, northern pike, musky, walleye, and numerous species of pan fish and forage minnows. Trout are most prevalent from County Highway T downstream to the county line. Smallmouth bass inhabits the entire length of the river in Langlade County. Walleye, northern pike, musky, and bass are generally found in the upper portion of the Wolf in the area from Post Lake dam downstream to Lily. There are many access points and boat landings within and near the fishery areas to access the river.  Check out the Langlade County Recreation Map for locations.

The Wolf River is annually the site of the Wolfman Triathlon, a privately sponsored race for paddling, mountain biking, and running.  The race draws hundreds of contestants and thousands of spectators.

If you want to stay on land, but take in the natural beauty of the Wolf River, stop at Military Park to get up close to the Wolf River or have a picnic along the shore. While at the park, make sure you read the Historical Marker on the Old Military Road! Military Park is located on State Highway 55, one mile south of County Road A or 4 miles north of Lily, Wisconsin.  

Get more views of the Wolf River on the Wolf River State Trail. The Wolf River State Trail provides an escape into nature with its 37 miles of crushed stone and ballast rock trail that allows for a variety of recreational activities.  Whether you are a hiker, biker, or someone looking to enjoy the tranquility of nature, Wolf River State Trail is a magnificent destination to explore. The Wolf River State Trail segment from Walrich Road to Lily is non-motorized during the summer, but during the winter it is open to snowmobiles. A state trail pass is not required on the Wolf River State Trail.  The state trail passes through the communities of White Lake, Hollister, and Lily in Langlade County.  When continuing north, the trail comes into Crandon, WI in Forest County.   The trail can be accessed at Wallrich Rd by White Lake, WI or at the Highway 55 crossing.

The Wolf River State Trail runs adjacent to the Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest, which further enhances the outdoor experience, offering additional opportunities for camping, fishing, hunting, hiking, mountain biking, horseback riding, cross-country skiing, and snowshoeing.
