Vintage Snowmobile Fans Have A Great Saturday On The Classic Cruise

February 7, 2017

A big crowd of snowmobile enthusiasts turned out in Neva Saturday noon for the annual Deerbrook Bridge Runners Classic Cruise. In the top picture two of the participants prepared to ride real classics, Carl Kegler, left, Russ Sorano on 1973 and 1974 Polaris TX machines. In the lower picture Ken Schroepfer brought his space ship, which he piloted.

The annual February Classic Cruise was held twithout a hitch, launched from Quinn’s at Neva.

Mike McDougal, who oversees the event, said it was another tremendous success this year.

We had over 150 registered riders for the cruise, he said, adding that there were plenty more on the grounds who came with new machines to socialize and eyeball and remember some of the older snowmobiles.

It is like an old-time tractor show, McDougal said, a lot of people come to look and remember.

Of course, older machinery has some inherent problems. McDougal said that some wouldn’t run when the time came for the cruise to begin and others made it for a spell, but not to the destinations. There is always at least one designated mechanic along, McDougal said, but in some cases trailside repairs are out of the question.

Some people appeared to be very comfortable, and spent much of the trail time inside the toasty Quinn’s.

McDougal was upbeat about this year’s ride and noted that a younger generation is coming, and bringing the older machines — perhaps older in years than they are.

Fun was had by all, he said. We are looking forward to next year’s ride, always on the first Saturday of February.

The main raffle winners for the day were:

— Corey Carter, Oconomowoc, a 1980 Yamaha Enticer;

— Andy Kihn, Hubertus, $300;

— Casy Cox, Antigo, $150;

— Jeff Schielke, Antigo, $75;

The $100 registration white ticket winner was Tim Ronas.

The event was sponsored by the Deerbrook Bridge Runners Snowmobile Club.
