Rotary Club Supports Second Bridge Over Spring Brook, Will Enhance Walking Trails

September 14, 2015

Dog walkers, hikers, and soon, cross-country skiers have a new span to enjoy on the city’s walking trails.

Members of the Antigo Rotary Club recently spent a day banging nails on a new bridge across Spring Brook on the city’s trails north of Second Avenue. The club also donated funds toward the project.

“The city of Antigo was very fortunate to receive the donation for the second year in a row to continue with trail expansion,” Sarah Repp, director of parks and recreation, said. “The bridge will provide a north-south connection for the citywide bike route as well as an additional segment of the existing trail, which is also utilized in the winter for a cross-country ski trail.”

Rotarians assisted the Park and Recreation Department with construction of a bridge just west of the high transmission power lines.

Repp said that expansion will continue north and south of the bridge with a low level boardwalk providing dry passage throughout the year. The boardwalk segments will be funded through the Inland Lakes District.
