One of the utilities that provide services to our listening area is offering community service clubs a chance to earn a $1,000 grant for performing energy saving steps.

Wisconsin Public Service is challenging the clubs in their 19-county customer service area to compete in the first ever "Service Club Energy Challenge". Up to 20 selected clubs will receive the money if they are able to perform three energy saving tasks.

Those tasks include:
-installing ten home weatherization kits from WPS to residences in their community
-host an energy conservation presenter at one of their club meetings
-and have ten club members pledge to reduce their energy consumption by five-percent in the months of September, October and November of 2011 compared to those months in 2010.

The utility will be reviewing the results of the clubs' work in December and will award the grants to those who comply by the end of January, 2012.

The deadline for clubs to register for being selected to take part in the program is July 8, and they will know by July 29 if they have been selected. For more information and registration forms, go to WPS' website to find the link for this information.
