The village of White Lake, long a hub of logging, manufacturing and recreation in eastern Langlade County, is celebrating its centennial year in an extra-big way during 2016.

Under the theme Be Proud...100 Years —100 Events, the village will conduct 100 activities, events and goodwill deeds throughout the year.

We are looking forward to a fun, exciting and rewarding year, Chris Oatman, Centennial Committee chairman, said. We invite all of our current and past residents, area communities, and all other friends where ever they may reside to join us in making this a very special year.

Special emphasis during the year will be to honor current and former area veterans and first responders through a number of recognition events and memory books. Additional emphasis will be placed on performing numerous goodwill deeds for senior citizens, physically challenged persons and the needy.

Glenda Butterfield Boldig, White Lake School principal, and Angie Wickersheim, White Lake teacher, are coordinating numerous school activities such as painting a mural of White Lake’s history; centennial signs made out of trees; student paintings and essays; and much more.

Village organizations such as the White Lake Area Historical Society, Lake Association of White Lake, American Legion Post No. 524 and Auxiliary, area volunteer fire departments, Troutland Rescue Squad, White Lake ATV Club, and others are planning numerous events. Other individuals and businesses will also be very involved in show casing the White Lake area during the year.

According to Oatman, many of these events will not cost much or will be donated but some will require funds such as printing a book of the history of White Lake, a memory book of the events of 2016, banners, posters, and of course, the big Fourth of July celebration.

To help or participate in or with any of the events, or to be a sponsor for the memory book, call Oatman at 715-882-2202 or Patsy Listle, parade chairman, at 715-882-2179.

Donations should be made payable to either the White Lake Centennial Committee or to the White Lake Parade Committee at the village hall, 615 School St. White Lake, WI 54491.
