White Lake garden moves ahead

June 23, 2016

The White Lake Community Garden has taken on a centennial theme.

As part of the town’s year-long centennial celebration, garden volunteers have added a new sign, created and constructed by Colleen Kupfer, along with four benches.

The garden efforts are being coordinated by Patsy Listle with help from a long list of volunteers who spend their days mulching, pulling weeds, planting and harvesting the bounty. Much of the extra produce is distributed free to the community and the White Lake School food service program.

Country Store in Antigo provided the seeds, while materials for the sign were donated by Brent Hipke and Kupfer. Julie Rose and Listle donated two small benches, which were constructed by John Rose. The two larger benches were donated by the Frisch families in memory of Carl and Marcella Olson.

Jim Popelka keeps the garden tilled.

Much of the garden work has been funded through a grant from Aspirus Langlade Hospital.
