The pace was a quick one for athletes in Saturday’s Tater Trot, the 35th in the running for Antigo’s annual 10 kilometer race.

Getting its start at City Park and rolling alongside area potato fields, the event was greeted by conditions far more pleasant than last year’s hot and humid weather.

The first to finish among the 117 runners, down from 133 a year ago, Madison’s Kevin Hall took the men’s title with fellow Dane County-based runner Elly Hall claiming the women’s crown.

Posting a mile-per-minute pace of 5:17, K. Hall led all runners with a time of 32.45.8, a full minute faster than last year’s winning pace.

Erik Johnson of Green Bay finished as the runnerup at 36.27.0 followed by Antigo’s Dan Bauknecht in third at 37.10.3 and Red Robin senior Colin Koss, fourth at 37.48.3.

For the women, E. Hall’s time of 40.22.7 beat the 2014 winner by a full five minutes. Antigo’s Stephanie Tainter rolled into second at 41:39.8 followed by Kristin Childs of Elgin, Ill. in third at 45:07.1. Cari Schmitz Carley of Middleton was fourth at 47.31.4

In the shorter 4K walk/run which attracted a total of 152 athletes, Kyle Timm of Taos, N.M. posted a quick time of 27.22.6 to set the pace, beating out Birnamwood’s Ryan Poehnelt by a tenth of a second. Antigo’s Nick Marshall was third at 28.23.6 followed by Bryant’s Ken Shestak in fourth at 28.31.7 and Antigo’s Curt Wassen, seventh at 28.43.5.
