Antigo’s Spring Brook is flowing a bit more cheerfully today, following an extensive clean-up Monday by a cadre of local volunteers.

The park and recreation department’s annual spring clean-up day was scheduled to coincide with a vacation day for students, and it worked, with representatives from the football, baseball and softball teams along with other organizations joining in the morning event.

There was even a kayaker or two in the lake basins, collecting trash and winter detritus from the water.

They collected plenty of trash from the three basins and along the brook, Sarah Repp, the city’s park and recreation director, said. The pick-up even included an umbrella, a tire and a toilet.

Afterwards, the 43 volunteers were treated to a free lunch at Lakeside Market provided by the Inland Lakes District.

We are very grateful to the volunteers who spent their time on a beautiful Monday to make our community even more beautiful, Repp said.

Volunteers checked in at the Fourth Avenue dam trailhead
for the Spring Brook clean-up Monday morning.
