There will be plenty of splashing and dashing at Jack Lake on Saturday.
The fourth annual Splash-N-Dash, known this year as the MK Memorial Race, will take place in the waters and along the trails at Veterans Memorial Park at Jack Lake on Saturday, starting at 8:30 a.m.
The race is being held this year in honor of founder Michelle Koss, who was killed this spring when her bicycle was struck by a vehicle near her Bryant home. She was 53 years old.
Michelle was an integral part of our race, organizer Becca Kaegi said. We wanted to make sure she was recognized and honored as our founder.
Members of Koss’s family will be on hand and a bench will be dedicated in her honor prior to the race start.
In addition, Koss’s memory lives on in Team Michelle, made up of co-workers and friends from the Aspirus Antigo Clinic, have formed Team Michelle to honor her memory at this year’s Splash-N-Dash.
The team will include Dr. Bart Kneeland, who will participate in his first ever Splash-N-Dash.
Michelle is going to be laughing at me this year, from heaven, Kneeland said. I’ve never done anything like this before and I’ll need her heavenly wings to push me to the end.
Presented by the Antigo Swim Club, racers will splash into the crystal clear water of Jack Lake and dash off to a five kilometer trail run.
The race can be done either solo or as a tandem team, which may consist of male, female or mixed where one racer will swim and one racer will run. New this year are a children’s race and high school tandem teams.
There are also different race lengths, with the short course including a quarter mile swim followed by the 5K run and the longer course featuring a half-mile swim followed by the 5K run.
Swim participant must be age 12 or over.
Kaegi said spectators are encouraged and welcomed. Awards will immediately follow the race.
Packet Pick-up will be Friday, 4:30 to 7 p.m. at the Clara R. McKenna Aquatic Center and on Saturday at Jack Lake from 7 to 7:30 a.m.
