With one week to go, there are big things happening at the Langlade County Fairgrounds today.
Bright and early on Wednesday, July 27, the 2016 edition of the 4-H Youth Fair will start with a full day of judging, shows and during the afternoon, the A&P Midway will turn on the lights and the entertainment will be underway.
A check of the grounds late this morning shows signs of what will occur.
A crew is sprucing up the shrubbery around the big fairgrounds sign and on what will be the midway, there are big machines that in a matter of days will be major amusement attractions.
One of those rides is called The Scooter, and another the Drop Zone, and they are already in place.
The Langlade County Fair is among the premier events in the northwoods, and the lineup shows it.
The popular midway music tent will feature The Drovers on Wednesday, Vic Ferrari on Thursday, Led West on Friday, Coyote Wild on Saturday and Cooke and Belle on Sunday afternoon.
In the grandstand, Six Appeal will perform a cappella, the latest rage, on Wednesday. There will be IMCA Outlaw and sprint car racing on Friday, the always popular demo derby on Saturday and tractor pull Sunday.
For exhibitors, the fair will actually start a bit early. Non-animal exhibit judging is slated for Tuesday, beginning at noon in the multi-purpose building.
Keith Wilson and his crew installed the sunscreen along the grandstand
at the fairgrounds on Tuesday, part of the preparation for the
2016 Langlade County Fair opening one week from today.
