On Thursday we had a story regarding how the tourism business fared in area counties last year. Langlade County has one of the bigger increased when tourism spending was compared to 2010 figures with people spending $42.1-million on businesses the specialize in the tourist industry.

The county's Economic Development Corporation provided their thoughts on the matter with a press released yesterday. The EDC provides services that try to encourage business and tourism growth in the county.

According to their figures, last year's 11.56-percent increase from 2010 was greater than the 7.2-percent increase in spending from 2009 to 2010. Langlade County's EDC Executive Director Christine Berry said that the spending created around $10-million in local incomes and over $25.6-million in state and local revenues.

She credits a well-rounded destination marketing campaign for last year's growth that focused on the county's wonderful and unique natural resources and having a trail for almost every type of recreation. She added that they hope to continue growing tourism with a strong promotion strategy that will include promoting the Langlade County Tourism App and engaging in other multimedia venues.

Most counties in the state saw their tourism business grow in 2011, with the state as a whole increasing eight-percent last year.
