Swimmers and picnickers at Veterans Memorial Park will have some amenities many take for granted beginning next season.

Work is nearing completion on an expansive new three-season pavilion, joining more modest structures in the park’s picnic and day-use area.

The structure is being constructed by Tradewell Construction of Antigo, with a base bid of $235,000. The total approved budget tops $250,000, although County Forest Administrator Erik Rantala said the project will come in under that amount.

The 50 foot by 30 foot building is designed as a three-season shelter ideal for parties, weddings and other activities. Carriage doors will be constructed by park staff over the winter months that will allow the open-sided structure to be enclosed, and a vaulted ceiling lined with wood and fieldstone fireplace provide rustic and cozy touches.

There will be a small secure kitchen area and, most importantly for park visitors, restrooms with modern plumbing that service both the building and the beach area.

The pavilion was funded through excess timber sale revenues from 2013 and 2014.
