A happy twist of the calendar puts St. Patrick’s Day on a Saturday this year, and just about everyone will be a little bit Irish for a few hours.
The pages of the Antigo Daily Journal have been filled with ideas for celebrating the big day, with green beer flowing and corned beef and cabbage simmering across the region.
And March, an unusually fractious month, promises a bit of lamb-like behavior, with sunny skies and temperatures in the mid-40s predicted.
PICKEREL PARADE
The 29th annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade, headquartered at The Country Inn on Highway 55 and Highway D, kicks off at noon, and everyone is invited to come early..stay late.
The parade offers a bit of early spring tomfoolery, with floats from local businesses and civic groups sharing the route with fire trucks, snowmobile trail groomers and whatever else people pull out of their garages or barns.

Pickerel parade. It starts, again, Saturday at noon.
Country Inn will be serving green beer, brats, burgers and corned beef outside starting at 11 a.m. with proceeds donated to Pickerel Emergency Medical Services. Inside, the restaurant will begin serving corned beef and cabbage at 11 a.m.
Langlade County senior citizens will celebrate St. Patrick a day early, with a Wearin’ ’O the Green Party on Friday, 2 to 4 p.m. at the Senior Center on Langlade Road.
Refreshments will be served and the Stone Soup Brothers will be playing Irish music.
Participants are asked to please bring an item for the food pantry.
DINING
After the Pickerel parade, join Lil’ Hummer the Leprechaun at Hummer’s Hideaway Bar/Grill & campground, corner of Highways A and TT. Sing along with backwoods karaoke starting at 2 p.m. and enjoy Irish drink specials.
Mole Lake Casino Lodge will serve an all-you-can-eat corned beef and cabbage buffet on Saturday, 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Earn and redeem 10 same day points from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. and eat free.
Potawatomi Carter Casino will serve Irish specials all day on Saturday. Enjoy corned beef and cabbage, Irish stew and Irish drinks in The Springs Restaurant and Lounge. The Flames Sports Bar and Grill will have corned beef and cabbage and domestic green beer.
Celebrate St. Patrick’s Day at Swartzendruber’s Supper Club. Specials, served both Friday and Saturday, include corned beef and cabbage plus all the fixins’ along with Reuben sandwiches. There will also be Irish drink specials.
Celebrate St. Patrick’s Day at Farmers Home Bar and Restaurant. Corned beef and cabbage along with baby reds and carrots will be served all day.
Koni K’s Family Restaurant in Elcho will served corned beef and cabbage with baby reds along with soup or salad bar on Saturday, 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Fifth Avenue Restaurant and Lounge will be pouring complimentary green beer on Saturday. The menu will include homemade Irish stew made with locally-produced lamb from Eckerman Sheep Company, corned beef and cabbage and Reuben sandwiches. There will also be Irish music.
The Refuge Restaurant will feature traditional corned beef and cabbage along with Reuben sandwiches on Saturday.
Dixie Lunch plans a great menu for Saturday. Try out the corned beef brisket and cabbage including parsley buttered baby red potatoes. The restaurant will be serving Reuben soup and corned beef sandwiches. Don’t forget the pistachio torte for dessert.
It’s no blanery. The best St. Patrick’s Day party will be at North Star Lanes. The all-day menu includes corned beef and cabbage, green beer and rainbow Jell-O shots. A deejay will be playing starting at 9 p.m.
Not Bob’s will feature live music with Sundowners on Saturday at 9 p.m. Get Irish whiskey shots for $1.
Not a fan or corned beef? Friday is ribs night at Vickie and the vets, with serving from 4:30 to 8 p.m.
Two Angel’s Family Restaurant has a great St. Paddy’s Day special, Enjoy corned beef and cabbage with boiled potatoes and a cup of soup.
Held’s Bar will honor St. Patrick with a party featuring Kevin Moore starting at 8 p.m. Free green beer will also be flowing.
Wolff’s River Inn at Post Lake will celebrate 45 years in business on St. Patrick’s Day. Register for $45 gift certificates and receive complimentary Irish egg rolls and dessert with every dinner. The menu includes prime rib.
Crab ’N Jacks, formerly Buettner’s Wild Wolf Inn at Langlade, will serve corned beef and cabbage with all the trimmings Saturday starting at noon.
Keep the celebration going all weekend long. Stop by the St. Patrick’s sunshine breakfast on Sunday, 8 to 11 a.m., at the SS. Mary & Hyacinth Church Hall. The menu will include scrambled eggs, ham, potatoes, egg bakes, pancakes, fruit, breakfast breads and pastries, juice, coffee and milk.
