Langlade County officials are working to turn the fairgrounds into a year-round destination.
Home to the five-day Langlade County Youth Fair in July and a mix of sporting and other activities, the grounds are chock-full of amenities and structures that should make them conducive to a wide variety of events.
The trick is making the facility—and its rental—friendly to users. That’s the goal of a new Fairgrounds Promotional Committee, made up of representatives of the fair board, Antigo Area Youth Hockey Association, Langlade County Economic Development Corporation and racetrack promoters.
Work has been ongoing over the past year, with the group working to make the experience of renting the fairgrounds—once a nightmare of fees and rules—into a less complex operation.
Fees have been revised, rates reduced, and flat fees incorporated for certain services to replace the often-variable and questionable per-hour stipends.
The process of scheduling the fairgrounds has also been revised to make more dates available and allow for multiple uses on a single date.
The committee has also been surveying various event attendees and meeting with fairgrounds’ users to determine how the county can improve the facility and the process of rental.
User suggestions that have already been incorporated include making Wi-Fi available on the grounds, creating a website with an event calendar, and establishing a sanitation policy for food preparation. A brochure laying out fees and amenities is also in the planing stages.
“The committee hopes that through its efforts, the experience of attending and/or hosting events at the fairgrounds will be enjoyed by all for years to come,” committee members said.
More information about hosting an event at the fairgrounds is available on the county’s website at www.co.langlade.wi.us/fairgrounds or by contacting the committee’s secretary, Pam Jankowski, at 715 627-6307.
