The National Forest Service campground at Boulder Lake, a very popular summertime destination on the Langlade-Oconto County line east of Antigo, will be open for the summer of 2018.

The Forest Service had previously announced that the site would be shut down for the summer, citing safety concerns for the visitors, which have been eased. Reservations are now being accepted at www.recreation.gov or by calling 1-877-444-6777.

Earlier announcements of the closing had raised concerns in Oconto and eastern Langlade County about the impact of the loss of the major camping area, which fuels the crowds for everything from Wolf River rafting, fishing, and retail sales to the entertainment and dining establishments in the region.

The site in the Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest will open for the season on May 24.

The Boulder Lake facility is one of 45 developed sites on the Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest and of that number, reservations are accepted at 28 of them.

Access to the Boulder Lake facility is north of Highway W east of Highway 55.
