Music In The Park Season Comes To An End Monday

Antigo’s summer music in the park series ended as it began Thursday, with spectators enjoying outstanding music on the lovely summer evening at City Park.
The final concert of the acclaimed summer series, which has expanded to include venues in Elcho and White Lake and been copied across the northwoods, had a patriotic tilt.
Wisconsin Trillium, a women’s trio performed in the style of the Andrews Sisters, offering excellent harmony accompanied by a baritone horn, keyboard and guitar.
They opened with the national anthem as World War II veterans Curt Doran and Richard Schuh raised the American flag and then launched into two hours of music from the First World War through the Vietnam era.
They also sang some original music written by the Trillium musicians that had everyone tapping feet and singing along, especially when they put on their Green Bay Packer cheeseheads.
Many veterans and families said they recognized and appreciated the familiar tunes, which Trillium regularly performs before Honor Flights. They will again perform for future Honor Flights, a program that sends veterans to visit the nation’s war memorials at no charge, this fall and winter.
Trillium capped a series of 37 concerts, including seven at the Jack LaMar Pavilion in Elcho and four at the White Lake Depot. It offered a musical mix ranging from Elcho and Antigo high school musicians, singers and dancers to the local Northernaires Orchestra, blues with MLC and Hip Pocket, historical tunes by the 1st Brigade Civil war Band even a visit by Elvis, who left the building after a tribute by the Hayek family on July 28.
Music in the Park committee is asking for comments on starting August concerts at 6 p.m. next year because of the shorter sunsets.
Music fans are also encouraged to text to 888777 with the message "community" and send to receive reminders of Music Association concerts and other cultural events which will begin on Sept. 12 in the Volm Theater with Barbary Coast Dixieland Band.

national anthem sung by the Trillium music group to begin the final
summer concert in the park Monday evening.
