The Antigo community led the Northwoods when it came to donations to red kettles last year. The Salvation Army recently released information regarding how much money their annual drive collected in communities in northern Wisconsin.

Antigo, which does include all of Langlade County, saw bell ringers and kettles collect $70,100 over the Christmas season last year. This is a new record for the local chapter, and the third straight year they have gotten a record amount.

As for other communities in and near our listening area, the next highest collected amount was in Rhinelander. Their collection total of $35,153 well exceeded their $30,000 goal. Other community totals reported included Tomahawk at $33,741, Merrill at $20,500, and Crandon at $4,655.

As for the entire country, the Salvation Army said all chapters collected $147.6-million. That is up 3.4-percent from last year's record amount.

The Red Kettle Drive is the main fundraiser for the Salvation Army, and each community chapter gets to keep most of the money they collect to help fund the services they provide throughout the year.
