Fourth Parade Nixed, Fireworks A Go

The Fourth of July, generally one of the largest celebrations of the year in the northwoods, will be relatively quiet this year.
This week, the Antigo/Langlade County Chamber of Commerce announced that the community’s annual Independence Day parade, traditionally held just before the evening fireworks, has been canceled.
“COVID has already brought many changes and cancellations this year,” chamber officials said in a Facebook post. “Unfortunately, when considering the recommendations of our state and local health officials that large gatherings are not advised, this year’s Fourth of July parade has been canceled. Ensuring the safety of our local businesses, visitors and community members is our number one priority.”
Antigo’s fireworks, sponsored by the city of Antigo, will still displayed at 9:20 p.m. on Saturday, July 4 at the Antigo High School grounds.
“We appreciate your understanding and support as we move forward,” chamber officials said. “We know that 2021 will be a year of celebration and we hope you will join us again at that time.”
Earlier this year, White Lake announced that its big Fourth of July bash, which usually included the Possum Chase run, parade, afternoon of activities, boat parade and fireworks, was canceled.
Antigo has also canceled its summer Music in the Park series, which traditionally included a patriotic salute.
Other northwoods communities are still planning fireworks.
