Boulder Lake Campground on the Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest will change 20 campsites from first-come, first-served to reservable through Recreation.gov starting February 19, 2022. Sites added include 12 lakefront sites and eight off-lake sites, which have electric hook-ups. The popularity of these sites at Boulder Lake Campground raised concerns for the Forest Service that campers were not always able to fairly acquire these first-come, first-serve sites.
“By adding these sites to the reservation system, it allows campers to reserve a site up to 6 months in advance based on availability,” said East Zone Recreation Program Manager Evan Miller. “This creates an opportunity for most everyone to reserve a premium site for their camping experience rather than hoping to be first to claim the site upon arrival.”
Boulder Lake Campground is one of 43 developed campgrounds on the Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest that provide a rustic camping experience. Of those, 28 accept reservations.
Reservations can be made by visiting www.recreation.gov or calling 1-877-444-6777.
