Fishing Day is a Great Success

Youngsters from across the northwoods dipped their line in the trout ponds set up at City Park on Saturday, experiencing the thrill of catching their first trout.

The annual Kids Fishing Day, hosted by the Antigo Chapter of Trout Unlimited, brought about 400 youngsters to the park for a day of instruction, prizes, refreshments and most of all, fun.

The day is a cooperative effort between volunteers from Trout Unlimited, Silver Moon Springs and a host of local organizations.

The Antigo Fire Department was on hand, offering tours of the Fire Safety House , and the Department of Natural Resources hosted a casting contest. The largest trout caught will be mounted free by Curran Taxidermy and Charles Noskowiak donated bicycles won by Favian Aquilar and Ava Medo.

Prize donors included Cenex, City Gas, Kwik Trip, BP South, Frontier Communications, Volm Companies, Elwyn Remington Foundation, Walmart, Copps Food Center, Lakeside Market, Sheldon’s Inc. and Mepps, McDonald’s, Stuart Schewe and Country Hearth Breads, Hooper Foundation, Waukesha Bearings, Boettcher’s Bar, Pepsi and Hilger’s Baits.
