Expect a Crowd Saturday to Welcome New Antigo ATV Trail

In excess of 100 riders are expected to travel through Antigo and north to the Parrish Highland Trails for the inaugural trail ride for the Antigo Area ATV/UTV Club Saturday.
“This is great,” Pete Pennington, president of the club, said. “We’re getting calls from all over and are hoping for a huge turnout.”
The kick-off will be a big one, with ATV and UTV riders assembling with their machines at 8 a.m. in the Peaceful Valley Park located at 420 Field St. It promises to be a big group filled with plenty of camaraderie. A registration table will be set up for those interested in joining the Antigo club.
At 9 a.m. the riders will receive a police escort through the city to the trailhead located off Amron Avenue just north of Karl’s Transport. After a ribbon-cutting formally opening the trail, riders will travel north to Angle Road and then northeast along town roads, many of them gravel, 35 miles to the Parrish Highlands Trail for a day of riding, with lunch at the clubhouse.
The group will return to Antigo in the afternoon, formally ending at 3 p.m. at Rick’s 45 Roadhouse.
Since ATVS and UTVs cannot ride back through the city, riders are encouraged to drop their machines off at Peaceful Valley Park, and take their trailers back up to the Amron Avenue trailhead where parking will be available. A shuttle bus will travel back to the park in time for the start of the ride.
The new trail was developed by the club over the past year, with assistance from the towns of Antigo and Neva.
Club Vice-President Jack Anderson stressed that the trail is multiple use, with walkers and bicyclists welcomed to use the route as well as ATV and UTV riders.
The ride opens a one-year trial period for the trail, Pennington noted.
“This is a privilege, not a right,” he stressed.
