The parking lot was filled and the bonfire was blazing for the Elcho Cross-Country Ski Club’s annual junket held Saturday at the Moccasin Trail.
The event drew an overflow group of skiers and snowshoers, plus hikers and a contingent of Girl Scouts to the trailhead, where club volunteers hosted a bonfire and brought out hot dogs, chips, desserts and hot chocolate.
Mitch Mode from Mel’s Trading Post in Rhinelander brought down a variety of skis and snowshoes for enthusiasts to try out the sports, or may for those seeking an equipment upgrade.
There was also an opportunity for visitors to check out the planned location for Michelle’s Lodge, a new chalet that will be constructed at the trailhead dependent on a successful fund-raising campaign. Brochure of the project were also available.
This was the club’s 26th annual junket, traditionally held the last Saturday in January. In 2016, the club also began hosting a summer junket to highlight warm weather recreational opportunities at the facility.
