The public is invited to try out some skis or snowshoes, enjoy hot chocolate around a bonfire, and check out the site for the proposed Michelle’s Lodge at the 26th annual Ski Junket hosted by the Elcho Cross Country Ski Club.

The event will be held Saturday, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., at the Moccasin trailhead, located west of Elcho off Moccasin Lake Road.

The event has been a tradition for over a quarter century and, depending on weather, draws a crowd to experience the northern Langlade County complex of ski and snowshoe trails.

Cookies and hot chocolate will be served at the lean-to and a bonfire will be blazing for those wishing to roast hot dogs and marshmallows.

Representatives from Mel’s Trading Post in Rhinelander will also be on hand with skies and snowshoes for visitors to try out on the trails.

The trailhead is the location of the Michelle’s Lodge project to construct a chalet in memory of Michelle Koss. The site for the facility is marked and organizers will be on hand to explain the project, fund-raising and a timeline for the work.

After a January thaw, fresh snow today should freshen up the trail, which has remained in fairly decently shape. Temperatures Saturday are expected to be seasonable, in the mid-20s.
