Donate Unwanted Venison to REGI

As deer season returns in the Northwoods, Raptor Education Group Inc. (REGI) in Antigo is asking hunters to donate any of their unwanted or leftover deer hearts and venison this season.
During REGI’s annual Have-a-Heart drive, a variety of collection sites will be available for hunters to drop off any leftover venison rather than ditching it in the woods.
Deer hearts are one of the best things for recovering birds to eat due to the lack of fat and high protein in them. While REGI cares for 600-800 animals throughout the year, they usually have to order more than 1,000 pounds of hearts every other week to feed their birds. Officials said these donations are a big help to get them fresh food and save money.
Each donation will get examined to make sure it doesn’t contain any lead from led bullets. If a heart is contaminated with lead, it will be disposed of accordingly.
Hunters can drop off these hearts and any unwanted venison at any of the collections sites listed below.
