Langlade County is getting its turn on the silver screen soon. The nation’s longest-running tourism TV show, Discover Wisconsin, and its hosts, Mariah Haberman, Abbey Maillette and Jake Zimmermann, are showcasing a handful of communities located along the Wolf River. The episode, called “Winding Down the Wolf,” premieres March 5-6 and will highlight destinations and recreational opportunities in Fremont, Langlade County, Menominee Nation and Shawano.

The program airs locally Saturday, March 5 at 6:30 p.m. on WAOW TV 9. It may also be streamed online at discoverwisconsin.com.

“Winding Down the Wolf” was produced in partnership with the Fremont Chamber of Commerce, Langlade County, Menominee Nation, Shawano Country Chamber of Commerce and Discover Wisconsin.

“Winding Down the Wolf” episode is a premier way of showcasing one of our most pristine areas and all of the recreational opportunities it brings to our residents and visitors of Langlade County,” said Angie Close, Executive Director of Langlade County Economic Development Corporation.

The Discover Wisconsin crew set out to explore various destinations and recreational opportunities along Wisconsin’s Wolf River. Haberman makes her first stop in Langlade County, where she takes on whitewater rafting and horseback riding. Zimmermann meets up with Travis Stuck from Wolf River Trout Unlimited to try trout fishing on the Wolf River. Also featured are the Wolfman Triathlon and the many local bike trails in Langlade County.

“From whitewater rafting to fly-fishing to horseback riding, Langlade County makes for a phenomenal Wolf River getaway,” said Haberman. “Our crew is thrilled to name Langlade County a 2016 Choice Destination!”

Maillette journeys to the Menominee Nation, to learn more about the importance of sturgeon in the area. She also attends a pow-wow and visits the Menominee Historical Museum, located along the Wolf River.

In Shawano, Haberman embarks on a barn quilt tour by bike with Jim Leuenberger, one of the artists behind the community’s popular barn quilt trail. After the tour, Haberman stops in at Twig’s Beverage to sample sodas. Also showcased in the Shawano area is the annual sturgeon spawning at Sturgeon Park.

The show comes to a close in Fremont with Zimmermann, who tries white bass fishing with Bob Caryl from Red Banks Resort. Fremont’s beaches, sandbars, resorts and campgrounds all make cameos as well as the Webfooters Water Ski Show Team.

“Winding Down the Wolf” will reach Discover Wisconsin’s broadcast network of 500,000 viewers across the upper Great Lakes region, including Wisconsin, Minnesota, Iowa, Northern Illinois, and Upper Michigan. The episode was produced by Jennifer Ingish.
