Classic Cruise Another Big Success

The 13th annual Classic Cruise, an annual winter event for the vintage and antique snowmobile crowd, was another giant success here Saturday.
A spokesman for the Deerbrook Bridge Runners, Mike McDougal, explained that this year there were a range of machines dating back to the infancy of the snowmobile movement more than a half century ago to pretty snappy models — older, yes — but still sleds that move quickly.
McDougal said there were Polaris models that dated to the early 1960s with Kohler engines that move fairly slow.
They made it to Kool’s Klub and came back, he said.
But the other speedier models were all over the place. There was a bonfire at Jack Lake and the machines and riders branched out every which-way from the headquarters of the ride at Quinn’s at Neva.
He said two visitors came with older racing machines that had been calmed down for trail-riding. McDougal suggested those two Yamaha’s cold keep up with just about any new sled.
McDougal and his wife, Regina, who serves as the president of the antique snowmobile organization, said there were a number of new faces in the crowd this year, which numbered over the 160 mark.
And when the riding was done, they all migrated back to Quinn’s where there were refreshments, food, drawings and karaoke.
It was a great time, again, the McDougals said.
