Badgerland About To Roll Out 31st Car Show And Swap Meet

The story behind a particular car or truck is often times more alluring than the actual car itself. In a chance to showcase and encapsulate this allure, Badgerland Classics & Customs will be rolling out its 31st Annual Car Show and Swap Meet on Sunday, August 21, beginning at 8 a.m. and lasting until 4 p.m.
The show will be held at Peaceful Valley Park for its third year now after relocating from the Langlade County Fairgrounds. The meet features over 90 trophies available for car/truck participants, with first, second, and third place trophies available for all stock and modified auto classes as well as Corvettes and motorcycles.
“It’s a chance for people to bring the old family car out of the garage, regardless of what others may think,” Badgerland president Jeff Ralph said. “So many people often say, ‘Who would want to look at [my old car]?’ where it is more about what it means to you. The show gives people a chance to talk to the neighbors and spectators about the car’s history, and that includes everything from diamonds in the rough to $100,000 sports cars.”
The Badgerland show takes place over one of the busier weekends for late summer in Langlade County. Ralph hopes to see the crowds expected for the Rick’s 45 Poker Run, Antigo 1st’s Party in the Park, and the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life possibly venture over to the Sunday automotive spectacle.
Ralph has been president of the Badgerland organization since 1992 and has been a member for over 30 years. The car and truck enthusiast says the show day itself is the most difficult part of the months’ long preparations, but by hosting the Antigo meet and attending multiple shows throughout the year, it is well worth it.
“The show day is the hardest thing. We’re up by four in the morning for breakfast and by the time we get done cleaning everything up and taking things down, we’re home by nine at night,” Ralph said. “The thing is, you see the same people at all these shows, so whenever we get together it is like a reunion.”
Pre-registration is not a concern. Ralph encourages anyone who wishes to enter a vehicle for the show to simply pull up to Peaceful Valley Park on the day of the event, regardless of what value the owner believes their old car or truck will mean to others. It is often the “diamonds in the rough” that Ralph mentioned that stand out best.
