‘Denim and Diamonds’ Saturday at North Star

May 16, 2019

Diamonds,” together with thousands of dollars in raffles and prizes, Saturday at North Star Lanes.

Aspirus Langlade Hospital Auxiliary has created a new event for its 2019 fund-raiser, with proceeds supporting equipment needs for the hospital’s emergency department.

It promises to be a gala affair, open to men and women, beginning with registration at 5 p.m.

A buffet meal will be served from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. with a live auction slated at 6:30 p.m.

Raffle drawings will begin at 8 p.m. with the silent auction concluding at 8:30 p.m.

There will be games, raffles and a cash bar. Suggested attire is “jeans and jewels.”

There is no admission fee, with the buffet dinner priced at $8.

Auxiliary volunteers have outdone themselves with the enormous array of silent and live auction items, baskets and raffles.

Leisure lovers will certainly be eyeing an opportunity to bid on two week-long Caribbean resort vacations in Antigua, a two-night stay on the shores of Lake Superior in the Turret Suites at Keweenaw Castle Resort in Eagle River, Mich. or perhaps a week’s cottage vacation rental at Bass Lake.

Sports lovers may be interested in a golf foursome at Bass Lake Golf Course, four Milwaukee Brewer tickets to the June 21 game against the Cincinnati Reds, a Riverview junior golf membership, Green Bay Packer jersey autographed by former No. 21 Ha Ha Clinton-Dix, or an autographed NFL football.

There’s much more as well, including a 29-inch television, guide services, weight loss certificates, car packages and even a Cajun shrimp boil at Bula’s Barn.

For the ladies, a special offering includes a 14 KT white gold diamond necklace.

In keeping with the theme, a colorful denim quilt made by Karen Opper will be among the many raffle items.

The Hospital Auxiliary dates to 1931 with a mission to promote what was then known as Langlade County Memorial Hospital. It is a group concerned with community health care and who work together to make the community hospital the best possible.

Denim and Diamonds replaces the Parade of Homes, which ran for 22 years and raised over $180,000 to benefit the local hospital.

Other fund-raising activities include organizing two bake sales at the hospital each year, selling pies and sandwiches at Music in the Park, and selling love lights through the Love Lights campaign in November and December.

In order to further help the community, auxiliary members knit and crochet hats and mittens for the local elementary schools and the emergency department, sew "snuggie" blankets for patients, knit and crochet toe warmers for the orthopedic department, and hold monthly blood banks at the hospital.
