May 21, 2024 - Antigo Farmers Market marks 16th Anniversary - The Antigo Farmers Market will be celebrating its 16th anniversary this year, and this could be the largest market yet. The first market will be held from 8 a.m. to noon at the Heinzen Pavilion in Peaceful Valley Park at 420 Field Street on June 1, 2024 through September 28.
May 13, 2024 - USDA Forest Service officials announce the termination of closure order due to 2019 storms in the Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest - Jones Spring Recreation Area and other recreation sites and trails, including Popple Ridge Horse Trails, previously closed after storm in 2019 are open again.
Jan. 24, 2024 - Snowmobiler Meet-Up Still on Despite Lack of Snow - The Langlade County Snowmobile Council Ride-In is still on. The annual ride-in will take place at the Lily Sno-Birds Snowmobile Club from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, January 27, 2024.
Jan. 22, 2024 - Longer Link: 3-mile Springbrook Trail Extension Set to Open in 2024 - The Springbrook Trail is set to extend by nearly three miles in 2024, another in a series of additions planned in the coming years for the trail.
Jan. 18, 2024 - No go: Lack of snow keeps Antigo-area snowmobile trails closed - Despite several inches of snow falling in the area late last week, snowmobile trails throughout Langlade County seem unlikely to open this week — and, given forecasts for warming temperatures, perhaps not even the next.
Jan. 17, 2024 - Jack Lake, Gartzke, and Moccasin Cross Country Ski Trail 2024 Opening - The Jack Lake Recreation Area, Gartzke Recreation Area, and Moccasin Recreation Area will be officially opening their cross-country ski trails as of Wednesday, January 17th, 2024.
Jan. 12, 2024 - User Fees at Jack Lake Cross Country Ski Trail - Users of the Jack Lake Ski Trail will be required a daily use fee of $10.00 per day per adult or a family rate of $20.00 per day for a family at a self-service payment box. Annual passes will be available at the Langlade County Forestry, Park, and Recreation office for $30.00 per year for adults and $60.00 per year for a family.
Dec. 15, 2023 - 2024 Changes to Operations of Langlade County Campgrounds and Veteran's Memorial Park - The Langlade County Forestry, Park, and Recreation Department has released the 2024 changes to operations at Jack Lake Campground, Perch Lake Campground, High Lake Campground, and Veteran's Memorial Park.
Dec. 14, 2023 - Veterans Discount Returns to Jack Lake Campground - Starting in 2024, the 10% off Veterans Discount has returned for Jack Lake Campground and all reservations will be online & available up until the day of occupancy. 
Sept. 15, 2023 - 2023 Mammoth Hike Challenge - The Mammoth Hike Challenge is back!  Hike, walk, run, or backpack 43 miles on the Ice Age Trail during the month of October 2023 and visit 3 of our Trail Communities to earn a hiking certificate and a limited-edition patch. Visit Antigo as it is one of the nineteen Ice Age Trail Communities!
Sept. 7, 2023 - 2023 Wolfman Triathlon - Saturday, September 9th, marks the 29th Annual Wolfman Triathlon, highlighting the rugged and beautiful terrain of the eastern part of Langlade County in and around the upper Wolf River. Aug. 23, 2023 - WWII Era Plane Turned Airbnb Vacation Rental - Antigo area's newest Airbnb this a 1941 DC-3! The 70-foot-long two-engine cargo and passenger plane that shuttled supplies across the Pacific Ocean for the United States Marines during World War II has been converted by an Oshkosh aviation company into Langlade County's newest Airbnb.
Aug. 21, 2023 - Langlade County Cemetery Tour “Presenting the Past” 2023 will be at Elmwood Cemetery - Antigo Community Theater, in conjunction with the Langlade County Historical Society, is hosting their third “Presenting the Past,” a cemetery tour focused on the area’s pioneer settlers. The events take place Saturday, Sept. 9th and Sunday, September 10th from 1 to 3 p.m. each day at the Elmwood cemetery off of Forest Avenue.

July 10, 2023 - Antigo Strive On App Walking Audio Tour - Learn more about Antigo's history by taking the Antigo Audio Tour with the StriveOn app. The nine locations within a half mile of each other will automatically play a recording through the app when near each location.
July 2, 2023 - Local artist completes mural at skate park - The Antigo Optimist Skate Park, at 1011 First Ave., now features a mural on one of the skate ramps. The mural is in the street art graffiti style, created with spray paint and tagging the phrase “Antigo Pride.”

June 6, 2023 - Langlade County Tourism Posts Recording-Breaking Year in 2022 - The Wisconsin Department of Tourism released 2022 economic impact data, showing the tourism industry generated a record-breaking $23.7 billion in total economic impact with Langlade County playing a pivotal role by contributing $77 million in total economic impact.
May 15, 2023 - Bookstore, herbal shop open in downtown Antigo - The Blessed Fig Tree, located at 800 Fifth Avenue in Antigo, had a soft opening at the start of May 2023.  The store is quickly becoming the go-to place for nonfiction books, bookshelf accessories, herbs, and supplements.
May 5, 2023 - ATV riders to celebrate use of Highway 64 bridge over the Wolf River - After 16 years, ATV, UTV, and snowmobile riders will now be able to take their machines on the Highway 64 bridge to cross the Wolf River.  To mark the occasion, a ribbon-cutting celebration and party afterward will be held Saturday, May 6, 2023.
May 2, 2023 - On blustery day, ribbon clipped for summertime trail - Friends and co-workers of the late Fred Berner braved unseasonably chilly conditions Monday, May 1, 2023, to formally dedicate a new section of the city’s extensive trail system in his memory. The Fred Berner Memorial Walkway, completed in 2022, was named in honor of the longtime editor of the Antigo Daily Journal.
Feb. 1, 2023 - Chocolate Shop Opens in Downtown Antigo - Chocadoodledoo! is one of the newest stores in downtown Antigo located at 816 Fifth Avenue.  The bean-to-bar chocolate shop and retail store sell fudge, truffles, mendiants (dollops of chocolate with nuts and fruits on top), hot chocolate and chocolate-covered items like nuts and raisins, cakes, cookies, and cupcakes.

Sept. 30, 2022 - A colorful fall hike on the Ice Age National Scenic Trail in Langlade County is Saturday, October 8th - The local Ice Age Trail chapter will be going on a 5 mile hike of the Summit Moraine Segment of the Ice Age National Scenic Trail.
Interested persons and groups should meet at 10am at the Jack Lake Cross Country Ski parking area on County Highway J.

Sept. 21, 2022 - Ice Age Trail group to host Saturday hike - ​An early fall hike on the Ice Age National Scenic Trail in Langlade County is planned for 10 am Saturday, September 24, 2022.  The hike, organized by the Langlade County Ice Age Trail Chapter, is open to the public. Interested persons and groups should meet at the Kettlebowl Ski Hill parking lot.

Sept. 8, 2022 - 27th Annual Wolfman Triathlon - Saturday, September 10, will mark the 27th annual Wolfman Triathlon, which highlights the rugged and beautiful terrain of eastern Langlade County and the upper Wolf River. The event brings people to the area all summer to train on the course.

Oct. 29, 2021 - Creepy Hollow Offers Haunted Trails and Buildings to Spice up your All Hallow's Eve - The Creepy Hollow is ready to deliver spine-chilling fun on October 20-30.  Creepy Hollow is located at N11818 Cedar Road in Birnamwood.  Gates open at 7 p.m. and ticket sales end at 11 p.m. Admission is $10, with a fast pass available for $20. Children 10 and younger can get their scares for free.
Oct. 27, 2021 - Zombies Take Over the Forest this Halloween - The Zombie Forest Haunted Trail on October 29-30 is a half-mile walk through the zombie-infested forest.  The event will take place at N5905 Ormsby Road in Deerbrook from 6-10 p.m. with overflow parking at the Peck Town Hall (N5702 Ormsby Road), with shuttle busses taking those back and forth to the forest.
Oct. 26, 2021 - Beth and Ken Castaldi's Love of Sled Dog Racing on Display at the Dirty Dog - It’s almost that time that northcentral Wisconsin becomes the mecca of sled dog racing.  One of the many sled dog races is the Dirty Dog Dryland Derby.  The Derby is set for its 15th annual run November 6-7 at the MaKaJaWan Boy Scout Camp in Pearson.

Oct. 21, 2021 - City, County Commit to Leveraging Ice Age Trail Resources - Now that Antigo is an official Ice Age Trail Community, a variety of city and county officials, Langlade County Historical Society members, and Ice Age Trail volunteers and staff members gathered to mark the designation and celebrate the new Welcome Center at the museum on Wednesday, October 20, 2021.
Oct. 15, 2021 - The City of Antigo becomes an Ice Age Trail Community - The City of Antigo is the most recent addition to the Ice Age Trail Communities. To celebrate this designation there will be a designation party from 5-7 pm at the Langlade County Historical Society Museum located at 404 Superior Street in Antigo on October 20, 2021.  A short presentation will be held at 5:30 pm.  
Sept. 10, 2021 - Mammoth Hike Challenge returns for 2021 - The Ice Age Trail Alliance’s popular Mammoth Hike Challenge will take place again in October. In 2021, participants are challenged to walk, hike, run or backpack 41 miles on the Ice Age National Scenic Trail and visit three trail communities. Participants who complete the Mammoth Hike Challenge will earn a 2021 limited-edition challenge patch and certificate.

May 12, 2021 - Pedal, stroke, hustle: MK Triathlon to be held at Jack Lake on July 17 - The MK Triathlon and Splash-n-Dash are coming back to Jack Lake on July 17, 2021.  The weekend will include the offroad event, a swim/run duathlon, and a children’s race. Athletes can compete in either a solo or team division.

Apr. 14, 2021 - New Welcome Center Vestibule Open to Residents, Visitors - New Langlade County Welcome Center is located in the Langlade County Historical Society Museum, 404 Superior St.  The vestibule is open now.  The full Welcome Center is anticipated to open Memorial Day weekend with a grand opening set for June 12.
Apr. 9, 2021 - Off-Road Race Update: Everything a Go for June Event at Fairgrounds - A majority of the details are finalized for the Antigo Off-Road race, courtesy of the Antigo Lions Club, set for June 5-6.  The billboard is up and everything is a go for a huge off-road racing event headed to the Langlade County Fairgrounds track. The event is one of six stops on the Championship Off-Road circuit’s national tour, which includes the wildly popular Crandon Brush Run.
Apr. 7, 2021 - Donation will Benefit Disc Golf Course - HookUp Disc Golf founder Evan Stoiber presented a $6,300 check to Antigo Parks and Recreation Department supervisor Kiel Korzinek at the Springbrook Disc Golf Course.  ​The funds were generated through two disc golf tournaments, the Tee Pad Bash 2020 and the recent Winter Wizards 2021.
Mar. 19, 2021 - Antigo Sno-Drifters: Keeping Trails Smooth Since 1966 - A lot goes into opening and maintaining snowmobile trails in Langlade County.  The Antigo Sno-Drifters was founded in 1966 by a handful of local farmers and businessmen with converted farm equipment and a snowmobile.  The club has grown to well over 100 members with modern groomers.
Mar. 17, 2021 - Northwoods Dog Sledding - WXPR Radio talked with the Langlade County Sled Dog Club President Jamie Perry on dog sledding and breaking the myths of the sport.  Dog sledding is a sport dominated by women, the dogs are typically not Siberian Huskies, and their sleds travel through the woods at incredible speeds.
Mar. 4, 2021 - Winter Wizards tournament coming to Antigo Saturday - The Winter Wizards disc golf tournament is coming to Antigo on Saturday, March 6, 2021. The event is a fundraiser for the installation of concrete tee pads on the city’s Springbrook course and is being coordinated by HookUp Disc Golf, LLC and the local disc golfing community.
Feb. 19, 2021 - The Sports of Silence: Antigo Bike and Ski Club Swooshes On - The Antigo Bike and Ski Club are a Langlade County organization of volunteers, maintaining Gartzke Flowage Trails and sponsors different events in Antigo and Langlade County. 
Feb. 18, 2021 - Ice Shanty Removal Dates Approaching - ​The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) reminds anglers that ice shanty removal deadlines are approaching.  Langlade County ice shanties need to be removed March 1, 2021, if south of Highway 64 or on March 12, 2021, north of Highway 64.
Jan. 21, 2021 - Big off-road racing event looks to be headed to Antigo - Antigo and Langlade County are excited to host the Championship Off-Road Races at the Langlade County Fairgrounds in Antigo on June 5-6, 2021.
Sept. 14, 2020 - Council OKs New ATV Routes - The Antigo City Council voted Wednesday, September 9, 2020, to approve an expanded set of ATV and UTV routes in the city.

July 24, 2020 - Streamlined Fair Opens Next Week, Oval Will Come to Life with Racing, Demo and More - Fair food, fast action in front of the Langlade County Fairgrounds grandstand in Antigo, and a sale featuring some of the area’s finest livestock will combine for a “lite” version of the Langlade County Fair.  It’s being billed as  “Wheels in Motion” sponsored by the Langlade County Fair Association, and will involve IRA sprint cars, sport mods and stock car races Friday, July 31 at 6 p.m.; Crazy Crash Motorsports Demo Derby on Saturday, Aug. 1 at 5 p.m.; and the traditional tractor pull Sunday, Aug., 2 at noon.
July 22, 2020 - Cleanup Continues a Year After Windstorm - Many anniversaries are meant to be celebrated. When it comes to the windstorm of one year ago, the infamous double derecho.  Considering the severity of forest and property devastation, it is a true cause for celebration that throughout the county, serious injuries were minimal and no deaths were reported. The damage was historic with the cleanup work continues today. 
July 21, 2020 - Giant Butterfly Takes Shape at Walkway - A giant butterfly is taking shape along Second Avenue adjacent to the Antigo Springbrook Trail to attract butterflies and other pollinators.
July 9, 2020 - Tractor Pull will Return to Cap a Reduced County Fair Lineup - The Langlade County Fair will be scaled back this year.  Organizers have announced the tractor pull will be on Sunday afternoon.  The tractor pull will take place in front of the grandstand from noon to 5 p.m on August 2, 2020.
June 22, 2020 - Fourth Parade Nixed, Fireworks A Go - The Antigo/Langlade County Chamber of Commerce announced that Antigo's annual Independence Day parade has been canceled.  Antigo’s fireworks, sponsored by the city of Antigo, will still be displayed at 9:20 p.m. on Saturday, July 4 at the Antigo High School grounds. 
June 11, 2020 - After Much Planning, Street Project Gets Underway - Heavy equipment began clawing onto Antigo's downtown Fifth Avenue this week.  Crews from A-1 Excavating, the general contractor, began work on Tuesday, June 9, 2020.  Antigo crews have prepared and installed directional signs indicating the best way to access downtown businesses utilizing side streets and the back parking lots.
June 10, 2020 - Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest Opens Additional Recreation Sites June 12 - On Friday, June 12, the Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest will open additional recreation sites; see list. For a full list of open areas and other up-to-date information, visit the Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest website.
June 9, 2020 - National Forest Blow Down Areas Reopening In Langlade, Oconto Counties - The Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest has restored access to all the motorized trails. The remaining non-motorized trails are still closed, including 11 miles in the Jones Spring area and the 18-mile Popple Ridge horse trails. Those areas are not likely to open this year. Boot Lake Campground is the only developed recreation site still closed due to storm damage.
June 8, 2020 - Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest Opens Picnic Areas and Beaches at Recreation Areas - On June 5, 2020, the Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest opened picnic areas and beaches across most of the Forest as well as developed dispersed campsites. In addition, restrooms and garbage receptacles will be available and fees will be charged at sites that are open and have full services.
June 1, 2020 - County Fair Downsized, But There Will Be Events - The Langlade County Fair will be held for the 134th time this summer, but it will be pared down and have a very different look and feel.  Following a series of meetings, the fair’s board of directors announced today that, in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, a “modified” exposition will be held July 31 and August 1, 2020

May 21, 2020 - Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest Allowing Dispersed Camping and Campfires; Visitors Urged to be Safe this Memorial Day Weekend - Effective May 21, 2020, the Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest will be open for dispersed camping and campfires, lifting the campfire ban across much of the Forest. Fire and campfire restrictions will remain in place for Forest Service lands in Langlade and Oconto counties due to the July 2019 blowdown.  Forest Service staff are working to install boat docks at boat landings prior to the Memorial Weekend.
May 1, 2020 - Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest Reopens Boat Landings and Trails - The Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest will be lifting the closure order for boat landings on April 30, 2020.  In addition, both motorized and non-motorized trails on the National Forest will be open May 8 or when local conditions allow for opening. Please check to see what trails are open before heading out.
May 1, 2020 - Recreate Locally—Residents Urged to Not Travel Long Distances to Recreate - With the warmer weather coming, the opening of fishing season, and the value of outdoor recreation for physical and mental health, the Langlade County Health Department wants to encourage everyone to follow the Safer at Home order and recreate locally.
Apr. 30, 2020 - Wisconsin 2020 Game Fish Season Opens May 2: Anglers Encouraged To Fish Close To Home, All Regulations And License Requirements Apply - The 2020-2021 Game Fish season will proceed as planned opening on May 2 even with the Safer at Home order in effect. All regulations and license requirements apply.  The DNR reminds anglers to fish close to home and practice social distancing whether fishing from a boat, dock, or shoreline.
Apr. 29, 2020 - And the Band Did Not Play on Pandemic Silences Concerts in Antigo, White Lake - Music in the Park concert series has announced that due to uncertainties about when Safer-at-Home guidelines will be lifted, along with concerns about large group gatherings, the Music in the Park series will be canceled for 2020.  The cancellation covers all concerts at the Antigo City Park bandstand and the White Lake Historical Society Depot platform, Elcho is currently planning to continue its outdoor concert lineup.

Nov. 1, 2019 - 'Dirty Dog' Races Set this Weekend - Lovers of dogs, competition, and autumn Northwoods weather can get a taste of all three this weekend (November 2-3, 2019), when the 14th annual Dirty Dog Dryland Derby takes place at MaKaJaWan Boy Scout Camp in Pearson.  Racing will take place on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. and Sunday from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Admission and parking is free.
Oct. 30, 2019 - Lily Snowmobile Club Getting Major Help Preparing for the New Season - Volunteers from the Lily Sno-Birds Snowmobile Club welcomed some heavy equipment from GNR Equipment of Black Creek and Mountain's Chute Pond Snowmobile Club to clear the Wolf River State Trail near Hollister.  The group cleared the massive blowdowns that remained following the July 19 windstorms.

So volunteers stepped in to clear damaged trails - Popular all-terrain vehicle trails reopened in the national forest by late August, helping return customers to Northwoods businesses that depend on recreation following the July 19 storm. But snowmobile trails remained blocked through September, threatening winter commerce.

June 13, 2019 - In the 1920's, Elcho Was an English Tudor Village - In 1923, a fire in Elcho resulted in a dramatic shift for the way the Langlade County town looked.  Two fires changed Elcho's look.  Elcho became one of the most architecturally striking towns in Wisconsin.

Oct. 12, 2018 - ATV/UTV Charity Ride Gets a Start This Morning, Draws a Crowd - Preliminaries to the 11th annual ATV/UTV Charity Ride kicked off with riders from throughout Langlade County joining members of the Kettle Moraine ATV Club and the Wisconsin ATV-UTV Association on an outing across northeastern Langlade County.  ​The rite is actually three days of activities, with Saturday's main event and banquet, with proceeds earmarked to the Make-a-wish Foundation.

Oct. 10, 2018 - Despite the Weather, Cheerful Group Works Today on Ice Age Trail Unit - This morning volunteers gathered at the staging area for the  Ice Age Trail Alliance Mobile Skills Crew.  Volunteers will spend the next week rerouting a 10-mile portion of The Old Railroad Segment.   The new route will showcase hidden gems that even the most dedicated hikers may not know exist, including old growth white pines, stands of hemlock and a tiny no-name lake. 
Oct. 8, 2018 - For Local Youth, No More Tough Sledding - A Rotary project is making improvements to the City of Antigo's sledding hill by picking rocks, adding plants, grading the hill, punching post holes and installing railings for improved safety and aesthetics. 
Oct. 7, 2018 - Visitors Enjoy Gartzke, Add to Reputation of ‘County of Trails’ - Marshfield YMCA Seniors on the Move program spent the day hiking the Gartzke Trail the first week in October, a trip hosted by Antigo Bike and Ski Club volunteers Don and JoAnn Belanger, Katherine Gorichan and Nick Salm. 
Oct. 5, 2018 - 10 miles of Ice Age Trail Here to be Rerouted, Volunteers Sought - A project to reroute the Ice Age Trail section known as the Old Railroad Segment will begin Tuesday, October 9, 2018.  Volunteers are needed to help reroute the 10-mile segment.
Oct. 4, 2018 - Fall Ice Age Trail Hike Set for Saturday - Enjoy a fall hike on the Ice Age National Scenic Trail in Langlade County on Saturday, October 6, 2018.   Meet 9 a.m. in front of the Langlade County Forestry Office at the fairgrounds.  The hike will be a five-mile trek on a new portion of the Old Railroad segment recently rerouted through the Jack Lake ski trail area.

Sept. 6, 2018 - Late Summer hike Set Saturday on Rail Segment of Ice Age Trail - A new portion of a long-standing trail will be explored Saturday, during a late summer hike hosted by the Langlade County Ice Age Trail Chapter.  This September hike will be a five-mile trek on a new portion of the Old Railroad Segment recently rerouted through the Jack Lake cross country ski trail area by chapter volunteers. 
Aug. 30, 2018 - Big Rolling Stone Picnic Set Sunday - The Rolling Stone Lake picnic for 2018 is just about ready to open Sunday, September 2, 2018, for a day of fun, music, games, food, drinks and more in northeastern Langlade County. The picnic is an important fundraiser being held to operate an aggressive summertime aquatic weed harvest program to improve the recreation opportunities on the lake.

Jan. 5, 2012 - Skiers, Snowmobilers Wait For Snow - Two words are on the lips of every skier and snowmobiler in Langlade County, and across much of the northwoods.

Dec. 29, 2011 - Antigo Bike and Ski Club to hold breakfast event on Saturday - It is not expected that any snow that will fall this Thursday will be enough to open area winter trails for snowmobiles and cross county skiers anytime soon. No matter what the conditions are outside this weekend, the Antigo Bike and Ski Club will be holding their second-annual "Breakfast at Gartzke" event on Saturday morning. Club member Joe Hermolin talked about the event and the club during Wednesday's WATK-AM 900 Arby's Breakfast Club.
