Langlade County, WI provides a variety of northern Wisconsin recreational opportunities to meet everyone's likings. Enjoy over a quarter of a million acres of forest land, 841 lakes, 225 streams, 395 miles of trout streams, and 200 spring ponds. Langlade County has been branded the "County of Trails" because of a good reason. We have trails for hiking, mountain biking, snowmobiling, ATVing/UTVing, cross country skiing, snowshoeing, horseback riding and even sled dogs.

Get your adrenaline pumping by going whitewater rafting or kayaking in eastern Langlade County. The famous Wolf River is one of the best whitewater rivers in the Midwest. People who raft or paddle the Wolf River are rewarded with abundant wildlife, outstanding shoreline scenery, and excellent water quality.

From historical museums, to many parks and recreational opportunities, you will truly experience northern Wisconsin at is finest here in Langlade County.

Horseback Riding
Crocker Hills Horse and Dog Sled Trail System
The Crocker Hills Horse and Dog Sled Trail System is located on Langlade County property and private property east of Antigo off Fraley Road. It is approximately 15.3 miles in length and offers a variety of trails and scenic beauty. The horse trail is located between Norway Lake and Evergreen Creek. In the north western portion of the trail steep hills and valleys afford the rider beautiful vistas of the northern hardwood complex. The trail facilities include a parking/camping area and a pit toilet bathroom at the trail head west of Fraley road. There is also water that can be obtained there by a hand-pump. An open-air shelter is also located at the trailhead and has serveral picnic tables on site.

Highway 45 Riding Stables
Experience the North Woods of Wisconsin by horseback. 45 minute deep woods trail rides are available at 10:00, 12:00, 2:00 and 4:00. 7 days a week by reservation. Highway 45 Riding Stables has been providing the Wisconsin north woods with a unique offering of riding experiences for over 25 years. Besides trail riding, we also offer children's pony rides, beginner horseback riding lessons, day camp, overnight camps for girls, family gatherings, birthday parties, romantic horseback picnics or boarding...we offer a personal touch to every experience. Moccasin Lake Riding Trail
Located west of Elcho on the existing cross-country ski trail and adjoining forest roads. This area features a variety of rolling terrain and is highlighted by two river basins. Moccasin is set up as a horse camping area, with pull-in sites with gravel pads, picnic tables and fire rings. There is a small, three-sided shelter, pit toilet and hand pump for water. Facilities also include a parking area.

Popple Ridge Trail
The Popple Ridge Trail is located in the eastern end of Langlade County off Hwy 55. The trail is located in the Chequamegon Nicolet National Forest. Located 4 miles north of the intersection of Hwys 64 and 55, turn east on Sawyer Lake Road, go 5 miles to Setting Lake Road, go South 3 miles to camp area. There is approximately 25 miles of trails with a variety of different terrains to chose from. This trail is managed by the Triple R (RRR) Horse-riding club along with other volunteers. There is also access near Nine Mile Resort off of Hwy 55.

The trail is marked throughout by horseshoe signs and "You Are Here" signs at major intersections.

The trail passes through the Silver Birch horse-riding trail system, with beautiful scenery of forests, ponds, rivers & lakes.

At this time there is a primitive camping area. There is water near the camp at a samll stream on Setting Lake Road if you need it.
